Petroleum may exist in gaseous, liquid, or near-solid phases either alone or in combination. The liquid phase is commonly called crude oil, while the more-solid phase may be called bitumen, tar, pitch, or asphalt.

Our petroleum industry has two parts: an upstream oil exploration and production industry and a downstream refinery industry. Yuzhno-okhteurskoe refinery is growing rapidly and playing an important role for development of Kazakhstan economy. We have high demand for oil, and the demand-supply gap is high.

Today, the range of products produced by oil refineries (refineries) has about 500 different names. These are substances of various aggregate states, which can be either individual compounds or mixtures of hydrocarbons of a certain composition.

Individual substances include compounds such as, for example, benzene or toluene.

A striking example of hydrocarbon mixtures is commercial gasoline, which is a compounded mixture of compounds obtained in the process of oil refining, which meets the required standards.
